In addition to the new species, we at dusk rising wanted to give players flexibility with class/job options in our game. Since real-life jobs seem to come and go, and people are continually adapting to their current life situation, we wanted to let players pick up new skills and abilities without having to respec or create new characters. Let me introduce you to our solution, Paths;

Much like any other TTRPG, our paths are split up into several main job types. Each specialises in its own things, with opportunities to enhance them and gain bonuses as you level them up. However, with Paths, you can mix and match your abilities - drawing from several Paths at once without suffering penalties or meeting pre-existing statistic requirements. So as your character grows and the story progresses, you can pick up the abilities that suit your current situation best. Of course, we will have a point buy system implemented that lets you "purchase" these abilities, but there will be fewer limitations on how you choose to expand your knowledge into other areas. Additionally, You can choose to keep old abilities if you want, building up an arsenal of tools to use on your adventures. OR, you can let old abilities "die" by not practising them anymore. Doing so will give you more time and energy to invest in new things, thus giving you points back to use in new pursuits.
