12 August 1687: The Battle of Nagyharsány

It was the so-called "second Battle of Mohács" as the left-wing of the Christian forces stood 17 kilometers from the battlefield of Mohács as the bird flies.

Unlike the Battle of Mohács in 1526, this was a stunning defeat to the Ottomans, it is worth commemorating. There were 50,000 Austrian / Bayern / Croatian / Hungarian soldiers against 60,000 Ottoman warriors. The number of Hungarians was about 15,000 but the lion's share of the battle was fought by the Bayern soldiers.

The right wing of the Imperial army could not even join in the struggle because a forest separated them from the enemy. I think the Hungarian light cavalry may have been used only in the aftermath when the fleeing Ottomans had to be slaughtered.
