Vibing with my people requires Be-With-Listening. According to Brian Klemmer in "When Good Intentions Run Smack Into Reality", Be-With-Listening means that I am present to my own experience and to the experience of the other person as I listen. It means that I am aware of the actual words and the underlying meanings that are being shared and triggered during a conversation. It also means that I have removed distractions and I am clear about my purpose.
In my 2024 vision for Sam Camp (aka my favorite prof development workshop), I was in a house with non-family members who silently and intuitively moved and flowed through the first part of their day. I believe those relationships come from practicing and implementing Be-With-Listening when I engage with people. So, I committed to preparing for Be-With-Listening before meetings with my circle. I refer to these exercises as BWL Prep exercises. And for the next 6 weeks, I've committed to completing 3 or more a week.
This is Week 2. And what I've realized so far is that although my calendar says I have time to complete a BWL Prep Exercise, my reality does not support that action. I tend to run from meeting to meeting thing to thing. And it's not because I didn't plan. It is because I choose, repeatedly, not to honor the plan. This also explains why at the end of the day I am often exhausted from "peopling".
