Building an Audience on Twitter

Building an Audience on Twitter

As I have been asked this question lots of times in the past few days, I think it is about time I share a few tips that might help you build your audience on Twitter. Building an audience is no easy thing and definitely cannot happen in one day. It will take time and a lot of patience, but it can happen.

  • Start building an audience before publishing your first book. Do not skip this step. It is the most important one. When I published my first book, I had no audience. That resulted in having no sales until a few months later when I joined Twitter.

  • Have a pinned tweet on your profile. This tweet can indicate who you are and where your followers can find you. If you have a website, write a few things about what you share on there.

  • Try to build engagement on Twitter. Posting daily and commenting on other people's posts helps a lot.

  • Talk about your book. Share snippets, talk about your characters, and share character art. You can also share character bios.

  • Let your audience know who you are. Post random facts about yourself, accomplishments, and how you work on your books. Make sure not to overdo it, as this might tire your audience.

  • Build excitement before your release date. Do release date and cover reveals, set up pre-orders, send out Advanced Reader Copies (ARC), and shout about your book throughout Twitter.

  • Never give up. I am sure you know this already, but you should never give up if writing is your dream.

If you are or want to become a member, I have shared an Indie Book Checklist with things you should do before publishing your book: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/dkemeridou/indie-book-checklist.

It is never too late to start building an audience on any platform. For me, Twitter proved to be more successful than the others. Remember; no audience, no sales. Good luck.
