Thank you much, merci beaucoup! I appreciate your kindness. Your support is helping me continue to organize fun photo walks, my print shop, and my small business grow. And the best compliment you can give is to tell your friends about my photo walks and art work.
Art
A self-taught fine art photographer, I have been practising photography since the late eighties. I make photographs because I very much like cameras and the medium, but especially because I like to create something meaningful. Importantly, I appreciate that photography is a calming vehicle. Focusing on a frame and a vision is meditative in a sense. It is grounding and lightens my spirits.
I am inspired by the artwork of painters Mark Rothko, in which the relationship between colours evokes a strong emotion, and Georgia O'Keeffe, in which simple gestures are powerful, as well as photographer Edward Weston who elevated form. I am also influenced by graphic design and architecture, where organizing form and space produces a distinct experience. So, with these drives, I believe forms can carry meaning with which I can create a meaningful photograph.
Photo walks
I have been organizing photo walks, architectural photo tours, and shown local photographers cool spots of the city to explore — typically mundane, overlooked, or forgotten, but always interesting — since 2012.
There is pleasure in photographing together, getting to know each other, and conversing about this and that and photography. Importantly, we can be inspired by each other to keep making meaningful photographs. And it is hoped that these experiences will inspire local photographers to explore the city on their own. dionysiospsychas.ca
