Hidden Treasures Galleria

Dinnie in,

Good morning, afternoon, evening everyone! And welcome to yet another Bloggie! On today's post we're going to be talking about Hidden Treasures Galleria in Portsmouth, VA.

This one's for all of you thrifters, vintage shoppers, bargain hunters, and knick knack lovers out there! Now, I wanted to start this article by telling y'all which one of these best categorizes Dinnie in Virginnie. I think I would most identify as a knick knack lover. Even as a child I was always the one asking for a yo-yo, a slinky, or silly putty. Not to mention my favorite Pixar short is 'Knick Knack'. [Look it up. You're welcome!] I would say 2026 Dinnie is still a knick knack lover at heart, however she neither has the room nor the funds to feed this beast so I haven't really been out and about shopping this year.

I saw a post on social media about some clothing sale they were having and I figured it would be a good day to investigate. Ironically I did not remember the details of that deal and I did not even look at the clothes. (Ladies and gentlemen, this is me! *insert upside down emoji*). I digress, let's get into Hidden Treasures Galleria!

Now in case I didn't actually mention it before, Hidden Treasures Galleria is actually a thrift store. It's located in this super bright orange plaza in Portsmouth on Airline Blvd. Although there's plenty of parking, I did go on a Saturday and I guess the plaza was on and popping that day because I actually had to park further in the back than I thought. No worries though for those of you who are like me and are Parking Privilege Princesses and won't go anywhere if there isn't ample free parking, there's plenty here. [Sidebar: I think there are a couple of other interesting businesses that are part of this plaza as well like LeMan's Karting and Atlantis Games and Comics so I have to come back and explore futher.]

Upon your arrival you'll know you're in the right place when you see a large sign that says 'THRIFT STORE' in teal letters. They had a couple of pieces of furniture outside and they post their deals on a whiteboard daily. (Not to mention they always include a bit of scripture at the bottom which makes me so happy!) When I entered the store I was greeted and they told me about their promotions as well as their scavenger hunt. Apparently if you find the little gold charm with a clover on it you get 10% off your purchase that day. They said it was hidden in plain sight and I believe the emphasis is on hidden because I actually did look and I could NOT find that thing!

I also think it's called Hidden Treasures Galleria for a reason because it feels like you're on the hunt to find something good and you never know what will pop up. The whole place is filled with a lot of miscellaneous items: furniture, clothes, collectibles, shoes, books, DVDs, CDs, dolls, a few toys, holiday decor, costumes, glassware, a whole VHS collection of M*A*S*H, you name it! I'm a sucker for the cute little seasonal bird decorative pieces they had. If you're in need of furniture, but you don't want to break the bank I'd recommend checking them out because they had quite a few large wooden furniture sets.

Now the whole reason why I went was because I saw an ad for a clothing sale, but I spent pretty much no time in the clothing section to be honest so I couldn't tell you much about their variety. I did notice a whole rack of baby clothes though. The only thing in the clothing section that really caught my eye that I came reeeeeeally close to purchasing was a taco costume. I just wanted to buy it so I could put it on and say, 'Let's taco bout it!' I had to walk away and even though I went into panic mode when I heard a man say, 'Oh look, a taco costume!', I had to tap into my rational side and decided a taco suit may not have been the best use of my funds......not to mention I still have two additional unopened inflatable dinosaur suits that I have yet to find an opportunity to use.....so like...maybe no more costumes. I would consider coming back to look at the clothes if I needed to cosplay for an event. Some of the best cosplays I've thrown together were purchased mainly at thrift stores.

Where I spent most of my time was in the books. Duh! I do work at a bookstore now so apparently my desire to be by books has increased significantly. I believe the books were $1.00 for paperback and $2.00 for hardcover unless otherwise marked, which is a pretty good deal! There was quite a decent variety and once again it was a treasure hunt. I ended up purchasing a couple of Christian titles and would definitely leave with more books every time I visit because whether I read them or not is none of your concern. What matters is that I have them and that I know where to get more of them.

I perused the back corner very briefly but I only saw some miscellaneous wires and records and electronic stuff. I think there was a speaker and a drummer stool. Along the sides they had a few children's toys on the shelves as well as some board games. One random collection of items I found that was quite interesting to me was several flags (like holiday and seasonal). There was also like super random stuff that I can't even properly explain what it was because I didn't know myself. There appeared to be two gigantic fabric leaves......is that actually what they were, probably not, but that's what they looked like to me! It just adds to the whimsy!

All in all this place is exactly as advertised: a place filled with hidden treasures. Yes you have to slow down and really look around because there's so much stuff in one place. Yes, you will find things you want to purchase and you will have no idea why you want to buy it and your rational mind will yell at you that you don't need it but sometimes your whimsical mind will win and you will leave with an item you had no intentions of buying when you walked through the doors! XD! And yes, it's in Portsmouth!

I've recently seen some alarming posts by Hidden Treasures Galleria that seem like if they don't get more sales they might have to close so if you ever get a chance to stop by and support, please do so! As of the past two days (It's currently August 27, 2026) they have had major sales/discounts to draw customers, a raffle, as well as donations open to help pay rent. If you can't help out monetarily, please spread the word to any thrifters out there and remember prayers are always appreciated!

I know thrift stores can be a very niche market, but there are people who truly do depend on places like this to clothe their families and furnish their home without taking out a loan and it's nice to have a local thrift store option to add to the rotation.

If you ever stop by, tell them Dinnie said hi!
