It's January 8th on the calendar. Time to get back to training. My training never really stopped, though there were a couple of weeks in a lighter mode. That was preparation for eating all those holiday salads π.
Until today, all workouts were fairly simple. Well, at least they didn't seem difficult. But today, intervals are on the schedule. 200x200 x8. Sounds straightforward until you think about the target time of 45 seconds that you need to maintain for these 200m eight times π.
Update: The intervals are done. This was definitely a very interesting workout. First, the weather: everything was foggy in the morning. For the past month, it feels like I've been living somewhere near the foggy Albion. The fogs and real estate prices are about the same. Though there's a nuance... Secondly, the training program itself was very diverse. I had doubts about my abilities on the intervals. But it turned out I could run 200m segments in 40-44 seconds. By the last couple of intervals, not only my legs were tired but also my arms. In my training program, there's a specific exercise - arm swings. Well, it seems very useful for these kinds of speed workouts.
Anyway, my arms started getting tired in the last couple of intervals. Not to mention my legs. If at the beginning of the intervals they were lifting well, during the last intervals it felt like my legs weren't even mine π. Due to the fog, the running track felt very slippery during fast segments. The humidity was so high that water was literally dripping from my hair.
As it turned out, the intervals weren't even the most challenging part. Next on the plan was 1km at 4:00 min/km pace. And this is where I couldn't deliver. Neither running at 4:00, nor completing the full kilometer. I managed about 700 meters at 4:35 pace, and then my brain completely refused to make my body continue. After a short rest and hanging on the pull-up bar, I headed home.
What can I say? This was undoubtedly an excellent workout where I had to work not only with my legs but also with my head. It even seemed to me that I'm not used to such tasks after my rest period and even missed them a bit. Not everything went as planned, but the variety of tasks and their complexity definitely energized me for the whole day.
