Julio aka Soleroz (from Latin: "sun & love") has a passion for composing acoustic guitar music mainly influenced by Latin and Flamenco styles.
He began playing guitar at 16 in South Africa. After only a few weeks of lessons, his first teacher had nothing more to teach him, recognizing Julio’s quick progress and creativity. He soon began Flamenco studies with Raul Bonegio, one of South Africa’s top Flamenco guitarists. After performing with the Bonegio Group at Viva España, Julio joined a Johannesburg Pops Orchestra recording and had master classes with Flamenco masters Demi Fernandez and Hiroshi Someya.
After moving to New Zealand, he continued his Flamenco studies and became active in Auckland’s Flamenco scene. Julio met world-renowned guitarist Paco Peña after one of Peña’s shows, deepening his passion for Flamenco. As the lead guitarist, he performed in major productions including Encuentro, Entre Dos Aguas, Zambra Flamenco, and Gypsy Passion, and appeared on Breakfast Television to promote upcoming shows. Julio collaborated with classical guitarist Robert Williams and many other musicians, released his debut CD El Primer Paso, founded his group Soleroz, and performed at Cirque du Soleil’s Varekai After Party. He continues to release his own music and still creates and enjoys Flamenco today.
