Li-Time Mini 12.8V 100Ah Lifepo4 Review by DC GUY

Jan 20, 2024

The Li Time Mini 12.8V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery is a compact and powerful energy storage solution that brings a mix of impressive features and a few notable considerations. In this review, we'll delve into its specifications, performance, and how it compares to other class 4 lithium batteries. With a stated lifespan of 10 years normal use and a 5 year warranty, it is worth your consideration.

LifeCycle: 4000+ deep cycles at 100% DoD, 6000+ at 80% DoD, and 15,000+ cycles at 60% DoD.

Dimensions and Weight :Measuring (L10.24W5.24H8.96 inches (L260W133H227.5 mm) ], the Li Time Mini is remarkably compact, making it an ideal choice for applications where space is at a premium. Weighing only 8.95Kg, it strikes a balance between portability and capacity, making it suitable for a variety of uses, from camping trips to marine applications due to it's IP65 Rating.

Connectivity: Being expandable for 4P4S (16 batteries) for a max 20.48kWh energy makes this Li-Time Mini an ideal choice for residential or mobile power applications.

BMS: The Li-Time Mini 12.8V 100Ah makes use of an in house designed battery management system which is rated for a continuous discharge rate of 100 amps and can handle a surge of up to 250 amps for 5 seconds. Li-Time recommend a 20 amp recharge current.

Temperature Protection: One notable feature of the Li Time Mini is its absence of low-temperature charge protection. While this may not be a concern in moderate climates, users in colder regions should be aware of potential charge limitations during winter months. However, if you make use of a suitable MPPT charge controller with low temperature charge protection such as the Victron MPPT 100/30 this is not an issue or you can simply ensure they are well insulated against the cold weather.

On the positive side, the battery does incorporate over-temperature protection, ensuring safe operation even in demanding environmental conditions.

Cell Technology: The Li Time Mini makes use of pouch cells, a design choice that often contributes to a more lightweight and flexible form factor compared to traditional prismatic or cylindrical cells. This design can enhance versatility in applications with space constraints while maintaining a high energy density, in fact it offers the highest energy density for it's class at 164.5wh/L (142.2wh/kg).

Low-Temperature Discharge: An interesting characteristic of the Li Time Mini is its ability to be safely discharged when frozen. This could be a valuable feature in situations where unexpected temperature drops occur, offering users peace of mind in various operating conditions. During my own tests the battery still delivered a steady 20 amps and came close to delivering the full 1,280 watt hours.

Conclusion: The Li Time Mini 12.8V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery is a commendable choice for those seeking a compact, lightweight, and versatile energy storage solution. With its innovative use of pouch cells, over-temperature protection, and ability to discharge when frozen, it offers a range of features that cater to diverse applications. However, users in colder climates should weigh the absence of low-temperature charge protection carefully. Overall, the Li Time Mini presents a compelling option in the class 4 battery market, combining portability with robust performance.
