Gotta get away
Get on the road, leave my problems at home
For another day
When the time passes slow and the pressures just grow
It’s the only way
So jump in the car, let’s see just how far we can take it
Bet we’ll make it
-
And if we end up off course
Round the mountains or overboard
It won’t matter, cos we’re together
Driving through this world alone
-
How many times do you sit
In the blissful silent company
Watch the fog roll off the fells
And admire the tranquillity
-
Around us are people met along the way
Who used to cause me so much heartache
So much pain
Their hold on me will fragment
Flutter off into the distance
For when I’m with you I’m reminded
What’s at stake and what’s important
It’s not them
-
Before you realise how it happened
The dark is rolling in
Taking over each sensation
Tainting it with deep temptation
Bringing along its own salvation
Time to go.
-
The journey home’s an odd one
Taking turns to yawn while hopeful
That the next day might be one more
Memory to cling to when we’re old.
-
Sleepy conversation
About what I’m never certain
Serves to close the curtain
On another grateful day
-
Clouds come rolling in
Not filled with rain but brimmed with dreams
Aspirations never thought of
Goals I’d never reach without that
Beacon of belief by my side
