Let’s be honest—sometimes, we just don’t feel like reading the Bible. Not because we don’t love God, not because we don’t care about growing in our faith, but because life happens.
This past weekend, my family and I went on a road trip. And if you’ve ever been on a long drive with kids, you know how exhausting it can be. The snack requests, the bathroom stops, the “are we there yet?” every 15 minutes—it’s a whole experience. By the time we finally rolled into our hotel, I was completely drained. I just wanted to kick off my shoes, crawl under the covers, and pass out.
But then it hit me—I hadn’t read my Bible all day. And honestly? I wasn’t in the mood. I was tired. I could have easily told myself, It’s just one day. I’ll read extra tomorrow. But deep down, I knew that if I started making excuses, skipping one day could turn into skipping more.
So instead of giving in to the fatigue, I made a plan to read anyway.
Once the kids were settled, I slipped down to the hotel lobby. It was quiet, empty, and the perfect place to just sit with the Lord. I opened my Bible, read, and let His Word settle my heart. And you know what? It actually refreshed me. Instead of feeling drained, I felt renewed. I went to bed with more peace than I would have if I had just scrolled on my phone until I fell asleep.
Here’s the thing—there will always be distractions, exhaustion, and moments when we just don’t feel like it. But discipline says, I’m going to do this anyway, because I know I need it. Some days, reading the Bible feels effortless. Other days, it takes pushing past our feelings. But those are often the days when we need it the most.
So, what about you? What do you do when you don’t feel like reading the Word? Do you push through? Do you have a strategy? Let’s talk—drop your thoughts in the comments!
Blessings,
Mrs. O 🤍🥰🤍
