Getting Outside Day 10

Getting Outside Day 10

Mar 10, 2021

A beautiful morning today, and one that was not planned at all.

That's part of the reason I love these little practices. I'm never exactly sure what's going to happen or what I'm going to do until I'm doing it. I try not to have them overly planned, and literally do exactly what I would do for myself. Today I woke up expecting a cloudy sky and not much chance for a sunrise, and had decided to do a bit of breath work to get the day going. But I wasn't really inspired for the inspiration and expiration. I wanted to be outside. So when I saw a blue hue in the sky above, I knew exactly what to do.

I wasn't sure where I was going to land to watch the rising sun. In the valley of the lake, with large hills to the east, it's not the best sunrise location. As I started out on the ice I noticed the island across and just down the lake. I had never been to the island before. But judging from the glow in the sky, the rocky shore of the island would make the perfect vantage point.

And as the sun brightened up the sky, my video rolled on and more people came out to watch the sunrise with me. It was beautiful! The sun rising from its slumber along with people I know and love, sitting beside me in their virtual state, witnessing the dawn of a new day. Together.

I love mornings, but I've been tired lately. Getting out of bed was a chore today, and finding the energy to connect to my practice was a bit of a challenge this morning. But I simply let one thought lead to another, and then one foot after another, and every choice led me to the perfect space in which to enjoy my Daily Practice AND cross another glorious day of Getting Outside off of the list.

And one more day out on the lake. That ice is going to be melting soon. Bittersweet this Spring thing, as I've really come to love my big ol' "back yard." Though I'll be happy for the sound of the water and the ducks to wake me from my slumber, I'll miss the simplicity and accessibility of just walking out the door and down the shore. But until then, perhaps another sunrise or two from the island, as long as the ice stays safe.

Thanks for tuning in! See y'all tomorrow.
