What data is stored locally
The extension stores the following data exclusively in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.sync):
Last seen post ID — to track which posts you've already been notified about
Cached post list — the 15 most recent Truth Social posts, for display in the popup
Account ID — the internal ID for @realDonaldTrump, fetched once and cached to reduce API calls
User preferences — poll interval, chosen notification sound, overlay on/off, post/retruth filter settings
None of this data leaves your device. It is never sent to any server other than Truth Social's public API (see below).
Network requests
The extension makes periodic requests exclusively to:
https://truthsocial.com/api/v1/accounts/lookup — to resolve the @realDonaldTrump account ID (once, then cached)
https://truthsocial.com/api/v1/accounts/{id}/statuses — to fetch the latest public posts at your configured interval
These are public, unauthenticated API endpoints. No login, token, or credential of any kind is used or stored. The extension does not communicate with any other server, including servers operated by the extension author.
Permissions explained
notifications — to display system alerts when new posts appear
storage — to save your preferences and post cache locally
alarms — to check for new posts at regular intervals in the background
scripting — to inject the in-page notification overlay into your active browser tab
offscreen — to play notification sounds using the Web Audio API (unavailable in MV3 service workers)
tabs — to identify the active tab for overlay injection and to open post URLs when you click a notification
host access (all URLs) — required by Chrome's scripting API to inject the overlay into any website you're currently viewing; the injected script only displays a UI element and never reads or transmits page content
In-page overlay
When a new post is detected, the extension may inject a notification overlay (overlay.js) into your currently active tab. This script:
Only runs at the moment a new post is detected
Only renders a dismissible notification UI using Shadow DOM
Does not read, scan, modify, or transmit any content from the page you are viewing
Can be permanently disabled in Settings
Children's privacy
This extension is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect any information from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL. The "Last updated" date at the bottom will reflect any revision.
