Sorry!

Mar 10, 2024

I can't believe that it's March already - 2024 appears to be slipping past so quickly, and I'd painfully aware that Bench updates have been very thin on the ground. I'll attempt to do better!

Quick summary of what I think has been going on.

  • Sea Defences - it seems that more and more of the sea front is now behind Heras fencing. It now starts at the the west most part of Kames Bay, and stretches all around to the Garrison. There's only one access point onto the beach at Kames Bay.

  • The work around Crosshouse, which started a year ago now, isn't complete. not by a long way

  • The benches between the Garrison and the war memorial where removed, they seemed to be "stored" behind some Heras fences in West Bay, and then a few weeks after they where removed, they re-appeared on the sea front. So it looks like they had a short holiday in West Bay..

  • Cosy Corner - now has a brand new gently sloping ramp down to it, looks like we're just waiting on the hand rail to be delivered / fitted.

  • Crichton Street - this too is covered in Heras fencing, and has been closed off to traffic, but the footpath running along the house fronts is still open.

  • New Steps - two new sets of steps down onto Newton beach have been created - replacing the rather steep ones that used to be there - again, they are blocked off at the moment, so we appear to be waiting for hand rails to be delivered / fitted.

  • Temporary slip at Farland point - there was talk of a new slip being created here to help delivery of bulky items - although the undergrowth was cut back no slip was ever built. All supplies where shipped via the CalMac ferry - and I'm sure that the issues with the ramp on Loch Shira in the last couple of months have nothing to do with this...

  • Bench Moves - some of the sea front benches have been given to the Primary School, and are now in pride of place at the front of the school!

  • CCC have asked people where they think the spare benches could be placed around the island.

  • The rock breakwater in the bay appears to be now complete.

So, as you can a lot has been going on, and most of it "good"
