WHAT'S NEW?
DEVELOPING APPLICATION SOFTWARE: Over the summer, I added content for all topics in Unit F161 (Developing Application Software) for the Cambridge Advanced National in Computing: Application Development course. The topic list on the website is here. Each page is in more detail than F160 because I made a whole YouTube series for that, but I don't plan on doing so for F161, although the first 7 topics do have videos in a playlist here.
OCR GCSE VIDEOS: I am remaking the Cambridge OCR GCSE videos. As of September 3rd, the first four are already in the YouTube playlist here. The playlist previously was split into very short, specific videos and there were 75 of them in total for Paper 1. Some previous videos were a bit amateurish, so I've gone for a more professional look this time. The new videos include relevant topics in a single video (e.g. clock speed, cache size and number of cores in one video rather than three separate ones). There is also a helpful summary at the end of each video. The idea is to watch the whole video the first time you learn or recap a topic, and then for revision you can skip straight to the summary if you need. Comments are disabled on these videos as I've had to put them in the YouTube Kids category due to upcoming social media law changes for under-16s.
OCR GCSE WEBSITE PAGES: As I remake videos for the Cambridge OCR GCSE course, I am also improving each corresponding website page at the same time. The new layout includes a 'What You Need to Know' box at the top outlining the specification content that is covered and an embedded YouTube video for that section. OCR A-LEVEL: I am continuing to make videos for the Cambridge A-Level Computer Science course. I posted a few more in August to take the total to 75 videos for Paper 1 so far. The YouTube playlist can be found here.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Updating and remaking the OCR GCSE content alongside creating and uploading the OCR A-Level content is the current focus. I aim to alternate between these two courses over the next few months, as I'd like both to be completed in plenty of time before the May/June 2027 exams and ideally with most complete before many schools have mock exams in January.
I'm also heavily considering looking at making website pages and videos for other GCSE exam boards (probably starting with AQA) once the OCR content is done. This won't be until mid-2027 most likely.
Just a reminder that CSNewbs has always been a solo project that I work on outside of teaching Computer Science, so sometimes updates can take a little while, but I'll post again in October.
