I don't have a lot of personal artefacts from my family's past but one I do have has a mystery attached to it. It is a notebook bound with board which has the most beautiful writing in it in a style which we call copperplate. It is a set of notes about mathematics which I am very interested in. At the back of the book are some little drawings which are passengers observed on a boat on the Rhine and solders in Napoleonic uniforms with a French caption and the signature A J Harris.. My sister had done some drawings in it when she was little because she was an artist and obsessed with drawing.
