Liberation is Local

Liberation is Local

May 18, 2024

*Update - January 2025 - Liberation is Local is shifting and expanding! I'm now hosting a 30-min virtual space on Wednesdays in addition to our in-person Sunday gatherings. Download this free PDF to sign up for my email list to get updates, pages, and links *

**Also, after over 30 weeks of meeting up with others in community, I learned a lot about starting with liberation. Read more here!**

Liberation is not something we arrive at, somewhere down the road when all the difficult and unbearable realities of our world dissipate and reveal some utopian dream.

Liberation is not something that happens to us. It is what we do.

Liberation is a process.

Liberation is a discipline.

Liberation is a practice.

We know our freedoms are interconnected, that none of us are free until all of us are free.

But how do we get free? What does liberation look and feel like? Not sometime in a far off future, but here. Right now. Where we are. Every day.

The totalizing quality of our liberation being tied up in each other means each of us is part of the whole project for collective liberation, which is a relationship of creative responsibility, ever present opportunity, and tangible possibilities to become the people we want to be in the world we want to create.

Liberation looks and feels like community, like transformation, like learning. It is experienced in moments of safety, authenticity, intimacy, connection, and belonging. Liberation is a process of growing and healing. We get free by extending beyond ourselves, by choosing to move with love even in the current conditions of harm and violence, even in the face of repression.

Liberation is guided by wisdom, grounded in truth, and reflected in our experiences of how we see ourselves in each other. It’s more than just radical imagination for what could be; liberation is the joyful existence where we recognize how much our humanity matters, especially on shortened timelines, because we are part of long lineages and spiritual movements. Liberation is found in the knowing, defiant, exuberant laughter from within the belly of the beast, and the tender care we offer one another so we are never alone here.

Liberation is possible.

Liberation is Local is an intentional space for planting seeds within my own community, with and for those who are committed to learning, reflecting, practicing, connecting, and growing together. It is a weekly commitment to ground ourselves in what liberation looks and feels like every day.

Each Sunday, for the foreseeable future, we meet in person and start at 10:30am.*

*And now Wednesdays at Noon on Zoom, too :)
