Living in OVERWHELM, Is a living NIGHTMARE

Dave's Work-Focus

In Ep.8b of the 1983 Chipmunks series, "The Incredible Shrinking Dave", Dave puts off a river rafting trip with his boys (The Chipmunks) for his paperwork.

The Nightmare Begins..

Dave has a vivid nightmare where the Chipmunks have to take over his duties as the man of the house, because he accidentally drinks a shrinking serum that Simon created.

What Does This All Mean?

Dreams can act as a mirror to our emotional state, unveiling our innermost thoughts and feelings. His dream, for instance, resonated a sense of losing grip over his life, mimicking his waking reality.

Consider dreams about falling. They represent a turbulent loss of control in our lives. Similarly, dreams about tidal waves and flooding could show us that we're feeling swamped or overwhelmed.

It's not to say dreams always have the same meaning, but this dream where Dave was literally taken out of control of his life, forced to forge a mighty river, and finding himself falling from great heights... This is totally a representation of his feelings.

His sleeping mind brought these feelings up to the surface, giving him clarity on what he needed. To put it bluntly -- he needed self care -- a rest from the stress.

What Can You Do About Stress and Overwhelm?

  • Simply, recognize that you're only one person, we can only do so much.. You have a limited supply of energy each day.

  • Take on less responsibility and demands of yourself when you can clearly see your stress levels are elevated.

  • Adjustments could be what stands between your consistent motivation and giving in to depression.

Additionally, Burnout can leave us exhausted and keep us from acting like ourselves, giving in to that stress can affect our moods and the way we interact with people that we know and love.

It does you absolutely no good to let it control you, it's for the best to just step back, relax and adjust before you give it the power to take over your mental state.

In the experience of Burnout, you can recognize these symptoms better than anyone else, but on the off chance that you're having difficulty seeing the symptoms; pay closer attention to your dreams.
