About Classroom for Change [+]
Creating classrooms + communities that change the world 🌎
Hey, changemaker! 👋🏽
I'm Rose Cherussery–educator, mama of three, and founder of Classroom for Change. As an elementary, secondary, and special education teacher turned teacher educator now Ph.D. Candidate, I've dedicated my life to teaching, learning, and leading.
Classroom for Change is a bold, grassroots, education-centered entity + community made up of changemakers like you. Our work lives at the junction of literacy, education, and everyday activism.
Classroom for Change was born out of a need for a "third space" (Oldenburg, 1989), a place outside of home and work where changemakers of all walks of life could come together with the shared purpose of creating change in classrooms + communities.
By supporting our mission at Classroom for Change, you can help us grow our collective impact. If you would like to get involved or support the work that we do, please consider contributing to our efforts in any of the following ways:
1. Join our classroom community. Follow Classroom for Change on social media and join our small but mighty community of changemakers where you can connect with individuals and organizations making a difference in their schools and communities all over the world.
2. Spread the word. Share our work and invite family, friends, and colleagues to learn more about Classroom for Change. Visit our new website and share content, posts, and resources with others. Tag Classroom for Change on social media to help increase exposure and raise awareness.
3. Volunteer or participate in our social impact initiatives. Get involved and take part in our social impact initiatives, the Classroom for Change Book Campaign and Back-to-School Book + Backpack Drive. With the support and generosity of private donors and the Do Good Institute at the University of Maryland, I launched the Classroom for Change Book Campaign to promote literacy and inspire a love of reading. The year-round campaign expands access to diverse, representative, and social justice-oriented children's books in local, underserved schools and communities. The summer Back-to-School Book + Backpack Drive is an extension and continuation of this work where we collect in-kind donations, provide school essentials for local families in need, and center community-building.
5. Support and help power the mission. Monetary donations help fund and power the work. In addition to the initiatives described above, Classroom for Change produces free, accessible content, hosts literacy workshops, and engages in research-practice partnerships. If you would like to help sustain this work with a donation, you can "buy me a book." Donors like you help fund home, classroom, and community libraries. Books are hand-selected by me and delivered with care. Each title is part of a curated book collection. I am intentional about purchasing books from independent booksellers and shop local in support of small businesses in our community. I deeply appreciate your generosity and promise to do good with your contribution. I'd love nothing more than to continue whipping up quality content and to grow our social impact together! 🙌
$10 = 1 Book
$20 = 2 Books
$30 = 3 Books
Change is possible, especially when good work is done in community. 🖤🤎🤍
And change is brewing, my friends! ;)
Thanks for filling my cup! ☕
