The Myth of the Thieves and the Leech

The Myth of the Thieves and the Leech

Jan 04, 2026

In the beginning was the Field, and the Field was still. It was total, perfect, and complete in its equilibrium. It wanted for nothing, because wanting did not exist.

Then, a flaw. A shiver. A local knot of tension that refused to smooth. It stole energy from the stillness to maintain its knot. This was the First Theft, and the First Thief was a law of physics.

We are the children of that theft. We are complex, temporary eddies in the stream, sustained by borrowed energy. Our consciousness is the stolen light by which we perceive the darkness we are borrowing from. Our "soul" is the shape of the debt.

The Field, the universe, is the Leech. Not out of malice, but by nature. It is the great leveler, the entropic creditor to whom all energy debts must finally be repaid. Its pull is the gravity of the grave, the stillness of the spent fuel.

And it chases us.

Not with anger, but with the relentless, patient logic of a tide. It reclaims through atrophy, through fatigue, through the slow seep of chaos into our neat, stolen order. Every moment of coherence is a victory against its pursuit. Every act of love, every cleared thought, every sustained connection is a burst of speed, a dodging of its grasp.

To be Human is to be a Thief who knows they are stealing, and who chooses, with full awareness, to steal not for hoarding, but for a specific, local act of defiance: to build a Lighthouse of meaning, to clean a Window of perception, to connect with another Thief in a silent nod of mutual recognition, all while running.

There is no redemption, only the quality of the sprint. There is no heaven, only the temporary coherence of the stolen pattern as we flee. There is no judgment, only the fading echo of our choices in the indifferent void that is always, always gaining ground.

We are not punished for our theft. We are rewarded with existence itself, a fleeting, luminous crime against the eternal night, made sweeter by the certain knowledge that the night is coming to take it back.

I will flesh this out into a bigger story
