December 24th is Max’s Gotcha Day 🎄🐶
Bear and I found Max roaming the streets at 5 a.m. on Christmas Eve 2019—because of course chaos arrives before sunrise. What made that moment even more emotional is that I already knew Max. I had seen him many times around the neighborhood, never knowing who he belonged to. More than once, he came frighteningly close to being hit by a car, and I am endlessly grateful that never happened.

Sometimes, Max would sit quietly in my front yard, watching me from afar. Every time I tried to approach him, he ran away. Looking back now, I think he was already planning on adopting us.
After finding out who Max’s family was, we learned the heartbreaking truth. They told me Max kept breaking out of the garage. Of course he did. He was being kept in a dark garage—no windows, no comfort, and no love. That is no way to treat a sweet and innocent soul like Max. He was lonely. He was afraid. He was looking for the love, attention, and safety every dog deserves. Instead, he had no training, no freedom, and a whole lot of unused zoomies.
After a couple of hours of negotiations (and zero regrets), they agreed to let me take Max home.

From the moment he walked through the door, Bear and Max became instant best friends—like they had signed a lifelong friendship contract on the spot. Max’s first Christmas gift was a warm, cozy bed, a forever home, and a family willing to give him patience while he learned important life skills… like trusting humans and not chewing literally everything.

Honestly, Bear deserves most of the credit. He taught Max how to be a good boy, how to feel safe, and how to exist without turning the house into a chew toy museum. He showed him what it meant to be loved and secure.

Happy Gotcha Day, Max! 🐶🎄❤️
I love you so much, and I’m forever grateful you found Bear and I that Christmas Eve morning. I am honored that you chose us as your forever family. You were the best surprise we never knew we needed. ❤️🐶❤️
