The Future of Digital Writing and the Silence of Medium

The End of Medium and Forthcoming Projects

Dear Medium managers,

"Pay attention to Medium, because it is slowly dying that almost no one from the inside is speaking out about the chaotic situation the platform finds itself in. "

In August 2013 John Dietrich wrote a Medium article with the following title: The Death of Medium. In that article, he begins by detailing the following things: Medium is doomed. Its symptoms - are an amazing place to share content. Its diagnosis - is merchant inflow disease. Its prognosis - is a business blowout. Why. Because as the great social media marketer and Medium contributor Gary Vaynerchuk once said, "Marketers screw up. "

At the time John wrote this article, Medium was only a year and twelve days that its had launched to market, a great time to say that John was completely wrong with his reasoning about the matter he described. Not least because from 2013 onwards Medium was growing greatly and 2019 to the late 2020s was the period when Medium grew the most in its journey. So, up to that point, John was kind of wrong. But if we stop and look at the state of Medium today, we see that John's thinking is starting to make sense, and this leads us to interpret that what John wrote was not meant to be seen in the short term, but in the long term.

Let's look at that part that says, "Marketers screw up."

Was Medium management screwing up everything?

Where is Ev Williams to review that?

Is Medium Doomed whose symptoms are the amazing place it used to be to share content and it's no longer that amazing place?

It is no longer news about pronouncements from various creators about Medium's new installments. Medium in the years 2018 through 2020 invested heavily in promoting internal affairs, had creators practically build their companies through Medium, some quit their jobs to just stay their full time taking care of their Medium content. But today we are not having that anymore, there is certainly something I should pay attention to by Medium management because even though Medium is in decline, it is still the best place to diversify writing, this is because there are still no competitors to Medium's measure. But will it stay that way?

The End of Medium and Forthcoming Projects

John's article made me think seriously about Medium's situation. Everything he described in a few words seems to be coming true as nothing, and this is something we should perhaps evaluate, is Medium dying because its marketers screwed up? On the team that was fired by Medium last year, she kind of did a great job as a manager, who wasn't proud to share her Medium earnings with her friends. The medium was robust and would terrorize any competitor, but today it is fearless, no one else has that much respect.

In all of this, Medium needs to keep in mind that competitors are on their way and stepping hard to get their spaces in the market.
