The book opens with the JK Rowling introducing us to Mr and Mrs Dursley, and their baby son Dudley. They live on Privet Drive and try to act as if "they were perfectly normal, thank you very much" 🙈
The narrator then took on the task of letting us know how unusually the day was. For instance, a cat was reading a map (or looking at it 🤔), and several people in the street wearing brightly-coloured cloaks were talking about “the Potters,”. Who was supposed to be Vernon Dursley's sister-in-law and her family.
Then in the next scene, Albus Dumbledore enters the scene with his silver cigarette lighter (pardon for using this muggle term). He enters with this Put-Outer/ Deluminator (whatever it is I am confused now!)😕. Then he walks over to the cat, which has transformed into Professor McGonagall.
They talk about You-Know-Who, and McGonagall confirmed the death of James and Lilly Potter. Dumbledore told her that Voldemort🐍 was defeated when he tried to kill Harry👶 and couldn't – that stopped his power from working somehow.
Hagrid arrives on Serious Black's enchanted motorcycle, carrying baby Harry who is a very tiny black-haired baby with a lightning-shaped scar⚡ on his forehead. Dumbledore leaves Harry on the doorstep with a letter. While he talks to Hagrid and McGonagall, "Scars can come in useful."
