Warhead Stroll is on the Play Store

Sep 06, 2022

Hello!

To start this account / mini-blog, I'm going to talk about my games, Warhead Stroll in particular, and its future.

I often participate in Ludum Dares. If you carefully followed the 49th edition in October 2021 (theme "Unstable"), you might notice a weird game about a warheaded man in a gray town with chunky pixel-art. Well, I made that!

Made in about two days, this game features Old Roger and his dog, walking in the streets. You control the dog, and you must must prevent your master from causing explosive accidents. The game ends with an epic fight against the butcher to get a salami.

The game can currently be played here (use WASD/arrow keys): https://cagibi.itch.io/warhead-stroll

At the time, shortly before the results, I just did a post-jam version with the most important bug fixes, and let it rest on itch.io and GitHub. What I didn't know was that it would score 2nd place in the compo category, out of 600-800 games!

Almost one year later, I thought about this missed opportunity, and I realized maybe itch.io was a bit too niche for a game store. Why not Steam, then? The thing is, this game is very smol and probably wouldn't fit there (and I haven't seen very nice things regarding Steam, ethically).

Also, I wanted to do a mobile game, so I finally ported Warhead' to Android. This one in particular is easy to port, fairly forgiving in terms of controls.

So since the app has been analyzed (took about a week), you can play it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.cagibidev.warheadstroll

The game is completely free, no ads, paid bonuses or anything. It doesn't store any personal data. Not even your high score is persistent, whoops! I think of it as a "test app" before releasing bigger games on the Store. I also made a French translation so that my immediate community has easier time playing it. Also helps testing the Play Store.

If there's enough feedback, I might expand it a bit. I had plans for a second level in the forest, for example, or small mini-games in sewers across the town.

Happy exploding, and have a good day/night/time unit of your choice!
