The Filipino nation needs a leadership breakthrough in all aspects of governance, commerce, and social. Such leadership must be driven by solid values but mostly of love—exactly like what we used to recite in school:
"Panatang makabayan, iniibig ko ang Pilipinas."
Everyone is longing for this. Some may be more active than others and some more conscious than others but either way, this is what every Filipino soul is longing for.
But obviously until today, the Filipino political psychology and narrative—with some minute improvements—has not reached a radical transformation. You still see the same patterns and old outlook only virtually fancier (and more colorful).
The current state of the country and the majority of Filipinos' way of life has so many layers and complexity in it. And most are from the painful and unhealed wounds from a series of oppression centuries ago.
The past they say, no matter how cruel, must not prevent one from forging a better future. It is true. But our true resiliency is the ability to deal with the cruel past as we go on to building a better future. This is a difficult journey that the Filipino people must partake in as individuals and as collective. And it must also be done in the name of love. Love that is true to its words. Love that is beyond itself. Love that is intelligent and kind.
We all want it. We all need it. But there is a huge lack in the willingness to work for it and to suffer for it. It does not matter much whoever sits on the highest chair in the nation so long as we don't change our narrative by starting with dealing with our wounds. Another six years will just pass and we will see that there's nothing really much because the change we are longing for is not a miracle that will happen after votes are cast. It is not the miracle of one person or one party. It is the hard work and the perseverance to press on every single day. And it must not be done only for the guarantee of one's survival but to be a beacon of hope and a laborer of love so we could thrive as a nation.
You, a Filipino soul is made up of the living Filipino Spirit. That Spirit never died. It never will. Awaken it. Because the leadership breakthrough that we are all longing for is within you.
