Approximately 70% of the BVI can not swim, and of the 30% that can swim even less can kayak, paddle board and sail. This is not only a safety issue but it means that the number of people, especially girls that seek jobs in the marine and tourism industries is limited. Most people who are middle to senior management or guest facing watersports are expats.
It also shows in the leisure side of watersports. There are very few BVIslanders who kayak, paddle and sail for fun and miss out on the beauty and the amazing sea that people spend $$$ on coming to visit.
Our aim is for every BVI child to learn to swim and kayak, SUP and sail. We hope by changing the narrative that more BVIIslanders will champion the environment and its stewardship for future generations.
We need your help because like many similar programs socioeconomics are a huge part of the who can and can’t and in order to reach the widest amount of children all are programs are low cost or free to encourage mass participation.
$20 pays for a watersports or swimming lesson, $150 pays for their Level 1 sailing badge, $200 pays for a week at camp.
