Good morning, Friends!
As per our new Friday format, where we mix a little movie magic into the meltdown, here is the state of the union for the third week of the new year. If you woke up today feeling like you walked into the middle of a wedding day at the Corleone compound, you aren't alone. The Don is in his study, the favors are being granted, and the administration has officially decided that "it’s not personal, it’s strictly business."
We are living through a real-time reboot of The Godfather, but instead of Clemenza and Tessio, we have Tony Blair and Jared Kushner planning the next move for the family. The books are being cooked, the cannoli is being taken, and the "family" is being protected at all costs. So, prepare yourself accordingly and take a seat. Here is everything you need to know about the state of the Republic in five minutes or less. As always, the full articles for every story below are posted on my Substack and Facebook page. Here is the state of the union for Friday, January 16th.
The Baptism of Fire: Just like the famous ending where Michael Corleone settles all scores while standing in church, the President used a stunning blitz to wipe the slate clean. He issued 14 full pardons and 8 commutations overnight. He cleared "The Puerto Rico Three" of bribery charges. He freed Adriana Camberos (for the second time) to conduct more business. And he let insider trader Terren Peizer walk free. The message? Never go against the family.
The Five Families Meet: The Don has called a meeting to discuss the "Peace" in the Middle East. He has appointed former British PM Tony Blair, the Consigliere of the Iraq War, to his new Gaza "Board of Peace" alongside Jared Kushner. It’s a gathering of the old bosses to carve up the territory and ensure the "investments" are safe.
A Horse Head in the Bed: William Sascha Riley, an Iraq war veteran, delivered a message that no one can ignore. His explosive testimony alleges a trafficking ring involving the highest levels of government. It’s a wake-up call that screams that the corruption goes deeper than anyone thought.
Omertà in the Press: The Pentagon has officially stripped Stars and Stripes of its editorial independence. They are banning AP and Reuters content and replacing it with DOD-approved news. They are slamming the door in the face of the public, demanding total silence on the reality of the war machine.
The Judge Says No: Judge David O. Carter refused to be bought. He blocked the DOJ’s attempt to seize the personal data of 23 million California voters. The administration tried to make him an offer he couldn't refuse, but the Judge reminded them that the Constitution still has some muscle in this neighborhood.
Trapped in the Revolving Door: A federal appeals panel ruled that Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil cannot challenge his deportation in district court. It’s a bureaucratic hit, ensuring that once the system decides you're out, there is no appeal to the family.
The $3 Insult: Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins is offering the public a menu that would offend a mob soldier. She claims Americans can survive on a $3 meal of chicken, broccoli, a tortilla, and "one other thing". While the bosses feast, the rest of us are told to be grateful for scraps.
Going to the Mattresses: Madison Sheahan, the Deputy Director of ICE, resigned to run for Congress in Ohio. She is trading her enforcement badge for a politician’s suit, looking to move up the ranks from soldier to Capo.
Choosing Sides: Senator Bernie Moreno has proposed a ban on dual citizenship, forcing Americans to choose one allegiance or lose their U.S. status entirely. It’s a loyalty test pure and simple. You are either with the family 100%, or you are out.
90 Million Ghosts: New data shows 90 million eligible Americans didn't vote in 2024. That’s an army of people who looked at the families fighting for control and decided they wanted no part of the war.
We are living in a world where the powerful write the rules and the rest of us are just paying protection money, but we have reached the point of "enough thinking." We cannot analyze our way out of this, and we cannot hide behind the comfortable cynicism that says "we already knew." Knowing is passive, but seeing is active, and passive acceptance must now give way to active resistance.
But do not let this heavy reality steal your joy. They want us to feel small, isolated, and cynical because a hopeless population is easier to control. Refuse to give them that satisfaction. Our greatest weapon isn't just our resistance; it is our resilience. So take a deep breath, hold your families close, and remember that no matter how powerful the 'bosses' think they are, they cannot break a community that refuses to be afraid. We are in this together, and the credits haven't rolled yet.
