When I Was ... POEM TIME

When I Was ... POEM TIME

Oct 21, 2024

When I was in my teens, I was focused and driven
Perhaps a little too much ambition?
I wanted to be an accountant, do taxes & such
But when I gave birth that seemed too much.

To the workforce, I went, as a clerk and assistant
Until one day, I felt the desire or want
To be a full-time mom with a business on the side
That's the day when the writing biz came & boy did I feel pride.

Then I was told to get back to work and make a dime
A computer is no place to waste your time
You have more skills and the kids need food
Don't even start with me, I am not in the mood.

I will gain traction, I know I'm meant to be a writer
When I was just a little girl, I wasn't a biter
I had the creative touch of using words to bite
And I wrote & wrote with all of my might.

When I was in my 40th year, I reached a monetary milestone
And then only then were people praising me for a job well done.
Where were you when I was making pennies and scraping by
on a dream that I knew wouldn't run dry?

That's okay, you were right here all along
concerned about the human you loved so strong
My soul is calm and my heart is full, the day has finally come
It was in fact more about the journey of who I'd become.

Love to those who supported and encouraged me on this journey thus far. Those who love us, even if we don't see it as love in the moment, are the ones who helped us get to the day we are on today - the now. Cherish them and cherish this. We only have today.
