Getting the ability to play a game before purchase nowadays is a rare occasion.
And I don't mean like at an expo or anything, I mean from the comfort of your own home.
Before you even put the game in your digital basket, if you see that Play Demo Now button anywhere,please take the opportunity to try out the game.
I have some of my fondest memories of videogames with Demo Discs that you used to get with magazines.Nowadays it doesn't happen anymore, it's too much of a money sink for games writing publications.
And even though we have digital storefronts for games that are more prevalent than ever, we get so little demos for games.Now with the advent of GamePass you might think that could take its place but you'd be wrong. (The Demo Discs of old's replacement)
Being on gamepass doesn't mean you'd just be giving a taste of your game to players, no, it means you are giving the players the key to the city.
And that could be a risky move depending on what your game is trying to deliver,
whether it could even survive after its zeitgeist in the gamepass window.
Will the game even still sell, after having given it away ?
Perhaps GamePass isn't always the clear cut solution for a developer.
Hence we can call our selves lucky some developers like Appeal Games based out of Charleroi in Belgium,
have the sense to put out a demo (with a timer in this case) so people can dip their toe in a puddle,
before taking the plunge into a larger body of water.
Whether it's a Double-A sized pool or a even a Tripple-A sized one,
Demo's for your video game are a win-win in terms of marketing.
