Hi there! I’m Jazz and I share stories about Black history around Massachusetts through the YouTube channel Black Gems Unearthed. I'm a hobby historian from the Bay State, frequently found reading historical markers and snacking on treats from BIPOC restaurants.
This series came to life in 2020 due to
A) social unrest triggered by George Floyd’s murder,
B) many years spent leisurely reading about Black history in MA, and
C) my love of storytelling and wandering around outside.
I launched Black Gems Unearthed to help folks learn local Black history in order to understand how the past shapes the present. I hope the videos also help folks gain an appreciation for the experiences of Black folks and African descended people in my home state.
It’s hard to believe it’s been over 5 years since I started this personal passion project! If you’re wondering where I’ve been, don’t worry…I’ll be back. I took a pause in 2024 to finish up a Master’s degree, and I aim to return when I have more time again. I appreciate your continued support.
