Update from Natal :)

Apr 11, 2022

Hello Supporters,

My name is Natal and I am the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Bipan Magazine. It is a digital magazine that works to uplift 2SLGBTQIA+ people all across colonial Canada. Only 13% of all Journalists self-identify as LGBT in the United States, according to Zippia’s database. Although, this data might be influenced by the fact that 50% 2SLGBTQIA+ people do not pursue certain careers due to perceived lack of inclusion, according to a 2020 Mckinley & Company survey. Our mission is to highlight creators who are marginalized and less likely to be published in traditional media. Another cornerstone of our mission is for it to remain 100% free for both creators and readers alike. Recently releasing our tenth issue, we are looking to expand. With this continual growth, we are starting to incur costs due to requiring more resources including: software, website domains, and advertising. Currently, these costs are coming out of my pocket. This is apparent in its unsustainability as the platform grows.

Furthermore, we are looking to be able to give our volunteers a stipend. Currently, Bipan is completely volunteer run, but our dream is to be able to financially compensate our wonderful team. We put in countless hours towards each issue and are devoted to our community of readers and contributing artists.

An important initiative we intend to start is an internship program. Gaining experience in editing, social media managing, digital editing, and content creating is important for breaking into the journalism industry. We are looking to provide compensated internships for creatives to expand their breadth of knowledge and gain valuable experience.

It would be our pleasure for you to partner with us in bringing equity and inclusion into the journalistic space.

Sincerely,

Natal Rox
