If you come to this post from a link I shared somewhere else, then you probably have a good idea who I am and what I do. But if you're just happening across it - here's the $0.02 rundown:
My name is Bill Ludwig. I live in Manchester, CT, USA with my wife, kids, two dogs, two cats, a ferret and six chickens. I have been writing songs my whole life and have been releasing music and performing professionally since 2014. In 2018, I was honored to have been named the Official Town Troubadour of beautiful Manchester - a lovely recognition of my accomplishments as a musician.
In my role as Troubadour, I have taken it upon myself to be an ambassador of the Arts and Music creators in my community. I have also made it my goal to bring music directly to the citizens of my town. "Troubadour-to-Door" is an initiative where I offer every citizen a free song request and I will personally perform it at their front door (or wherever they want me to perform it in town). Over the years, I have performed dozens of songs for kids, parents, husbands and wives at birthday celebrations, in hospital rooms, at people's workplaces or just as a nice surprise to brighten someone's day. There are always smiles and there are often tears.
In March of 2020, having been laid off work due to the pandemic I decided I would sing a song to inspire my town, musical cheerleader that I try to be. I set up a camera in the center of the busiest street in town and with the sun rising at my back live streamed a performance of The Star Spangled Banner. That performance was kind of a big deal and went locally viral... and it inspired me to continue with the daily songs as a way to root on my town as we struggled through those lockdown months. I wasn't going to stand in traffic every morning. But I did have a captive audience in the back yard... my chickens! Just like that, Songs For Chickens was born.
Now, THREE YEARS and nearly 500 songs later, I've gathered hundreds of followers who look forward to a song to get each morning started. Is it silly? Yes. But one look at the comments of thanks and gratitude every day tells me it means something to those who check in each day.
It motivates me as well. Getting up each day and quickly figuring out how to perform a song can be pretty intense. It is a labor of love for sure.
In future posts, I'll tell you about the ups and downs of chickens, my many musical endeavors, I'll share some of my favorite songs and I'll tell you about stuff I'm doing. And we'll do it over a cup of coffee. Thanks for reading.
