I launched a developer tool with almost no audience — here’s what happened

A few weeks ago, almost nobody knew me online.

No large Twitter following.
No audience.
No marketing team.
No paid ads.

Just me building late at night after work.

Like most developers, I was frustrated with constantly switching between icon websites while building projects.

Some platforms were slow.
Some had messy UI.
Some didn’t support JSX or TSX properly.
And sometimes I spent more time finding icons than actually building the project.

So I decided to build my own solution.

That’s how nexticons.in started.

The idea was simple:
make an icon platform focused on developers.

I wanted something where people could:

  • Copy icons as SVG, JSX, or TSX

  • Preview icons inside real UI examples

  • Share icons easily

  • Find icons quickly without distractions

At first, I honestly thought nobody would use it.

But I kept shipping updates anyway.

Some nights I worked until 2AM adding small features that most people probably wouldn’t even notice.

Things like:

  • Better copy options

  • Cleaner icon previews

  • Share functionality

  • Faster search

  • Better developer experience

Then slowly, people started visiting the site.

Within the first week, nexticons.in crossed 100+ active users.

For large startups, that number may look small.

But for a solo developer starting from zero followers, seeing strangers use something you built feels unreal.

One thing I learned quickly:
you do not need a massive audience to start building products.

You need consistency.

Most people wait for:

  • perfect timing

  • perfect product

  • perfect audience

  • perfect launch

I stopped waiting and just shipped.

And honestly, building publicly changed everything.

Even small comments, feedback, and shares helped improve the project faster.

nexticons.in is still early.

There’s still a lot to improve.

But this is probably the most exciting part — watching a small idea slowly grow into something real.

If you’re building something too, keep shipping.
Even if nobody is watching yet.
