Today we introduce you to our piccolo and flute player:

María Leiva Sepúlveda (1997, Málaga, Spain) is a piccoloist and flutist based in Antwerp, Belgium. She studied for her Bachelor's Degree in Conservatorio Superior de Música de Málaga and continued her studies with a Master's Degree in Piccolo performance at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. In 2021 she also graduated from the International University of Valencia, where she studied for a Master in Musical Research.

She is a very enthusiastic performer and nowadays she is very active in competitions. She got the I Prize in "A tutto flauto Competition" in the Piccolo category in 2022, the III Prize of the Orchestral Auditions Award of the Samnium University and got selected as semifinalist in the Piccolo Artist Competition in Chicago in 2022, Severino Gazzelloni Competition in Pescara, also in 2022 and Dutch International Competition in 2023.

As a musician, she considers herself in continuously learning and experimenting. She loves working together with composers, ensembles, orchestras and any kind of artists.

These days she works together with composer Bernardo Beirão on this project and also performs some of his new pieces for piccolo and flute.
