My Debut Novel: Buried Things Can Still Bloom: The Awakening of Kael

IS FINALLY HERE!

A Message About Forgiveness - The Heart Of The Story:

“Unforgiveness is poison — expecting the other to suffer only destroys you. Forgiveness isn’t for them; it’s for you.”

“Forgiveness isn’t a feeling. It’s a choice.”

“Often, the greatest victories come not from defeating opponents but from transforming them into allies.”

Dear reader, I want to share honestly what it took to write this book.

The most challenging scene wasn’t the one where Kael Morrison experiences painful losses, nor the moment that pushes him to the brink of despair, nor the one set within walls meant for healing, where he faces what he’s spent years outrunning. The hardest scene to craft was the one where Kael chooses grace. Because everything in him, and honestly, everything in me was screaming for something else. Something final, deserved, almost poetic. Revenge.

When I wrote that scene, I knew some readers might close the book right then. That some would argue he had no right to humble himself after all he’d endured, that refusing revenge was a weakness masked as virtue. I wouldn’t blame you. Not for a second. Because I’ve held onto unforgiveness myself.

I understand what it is like when rage stops being a reaction and becomes your home. When you cling to it so tightly, for so long, that it starts to feel like your strength, armour, dignity, and the only proof that you overcame wicked schemes, I know how righteous anger can feel, and how tempting the fantasy of revenge appears. And I know, in that deep, bodily way, what it quietly takes from you while you’re holding onto it.

Before we go further, I want you to do something. Think of the wound that reshaped you. Not the forgotten promise or careless words, but the real one. The betrayal that made you question everything about people, safety, and yourself. The loss caused by others, and the unbearable weight of watching them carry on while you were left behind, rebuilding in silence.

How did you handle it? Did you swallow it and move on, letting something harden quietly and permanently in you? Did you rehearse the confrontation you never had, in the car, shower, or the middle of the night when sleep refused to come? Did you try to forgive, truly try, only to find the feeling never followed the decision? That the wound stayed open, no matter how many times you declared it closed?

Sit with that. Because that place, that specific, suffocating, deeply lonely space, is exactly where you will find Kael Morrison.

I won’t tell his story here. He has earned the right to tell it himself, in his own time, through his own pages. But what I will say is this: Kael is a man who has known loss so profound that it stopped feeling like loss and became identity.

He turned grief into fuel, rage into direction, pain into a management until the day everything arrived at once, and management was no longer enough. He is still fighting to overcome an addiction that has long tangled itself around his grief, blurring the lines between them. Kael holds onto a dream that survives only in the margins of a life trying to erase it, failed by those who witnessed his truth and chose comfort over it. And he’s standing at his own edge, not necessarily with a railing, but an edge nonetheless, faced with a simple, devastating choice: is there still something worth reaching for?

Kael isn’t the hero we usually admire. He’s the hero we recognise, because he’s so fully, so undeniably, human. The version of us that keeps showing up after something inside has already quietly given out. The one holding onto unforgiveness because letting go felt like letting the wrong person win.

Here’s what his journey has taught me. Here’s what lives on every page: unforgiveness is not strength. It’s a slow burial.

In what way, you might ask? Every day you wait for the person who hurt you to suffer, you are swallowing poison. They go on with their lives, making breakfast, perfecting plans, and trying to find peace, while you stay frozen in the moment they wounded you, tending a fire that burns only inward. You convince yourself that this vigil is loyalty. It is not, but the theft of your peace and vigour, and this time around, you are the one robbing yourself of the chance to live a productive and fruitful life.

Forgiveness isn’t some gentle feeling that arrives one morning with light through a window. It’s a choice you have to make every day, deliberate, sometimes brutal, to stop letting someone else’s darkness define you. To cease giving that terrible event control over your story.

This choice isn’t for them. They might never deserve it or know you’ve made it. But long after you finish this book, you’ll realise: sometimes, brave enough to walk through that door, what you thought would destroy you becomes the very thing you never imagined, built from ruins. The greatest victory isn’t defeating those who hurt you, but in what you become when you refuse to let them finish what they started.

Kael finds this truth the hard way. Through fire, not inspiration. Through silent, dark choices when no one’s watching, when everything screams to give up or strike back.

BURIED THINGS CAN STILL BLOOM: The Awakening of Kael is the story of a man standing at the crossroads of rage and grace, pushed by life, loss, and relentless hope, to choose who he will be.

It’s about addiction and grief so intertwined they’ve forgotten their names. A dream surviving against all odds. The cruelty of witnesses who look away. And justice arriving sideways, in unexpected forms.

Most of all, this novel is about forgiveness so hard-won it barely feels like forgiveness at first, until you realise it has been quietly freeing you all along.

If you truly let it in, forgiveness will find the buried parts of you, still waiting, still refusing to give up, still stubbornly, quietly alive. And it will ask the only question that matters:

  Are you ready to bloom?
