Yesterday, I went to the public library with my drag brother Justin Toodeep to read beautiful hand picked books to kids. A free, bilingual, event where no one was forced to attend. And guess what? We were protested by bigots!
The funny thing is, the counter protest was 10 times bigger, brighter, and so full of love and acceptance. They basically created a beautiful atmosphere to block out the hate for when the families walked in. That way the kids wouldn’t be afraid of the screaming angry people.
Yesterday was stressful, beautiful, and I’m just so so tired. But seeing the smiles on those kids’ faces, knowing how much something like this would have helped me at their age, made everything worth it.
