Residents and road users along the Ikom-Boki-Obudu corridor have been urged to disregard reports circulating online claiming that construction work has commenced on the long-neglected federal road.

Contrary to the viral claims, investigations and on-ground observations show that no rehabilitation work is currently ongoing on the Ikom-Boki-Obudu road. There are no construction workers on site, no heavy-duty equipment deployed, and no visible sign of project execution as of the time of this report.
The clarification comes amid growing public excitement following earlier announcements that Governor Bassey Otu approved emergency intervention works on sections of the road. While the governor reportedly approved 10 kilometers of emergency repairs to ease transportation challenges faced by commuters and communities along the axis, implementation has not yet begun.
Sources familiar with developments around the project confirmed that the photographs being widely circulated on social media as evidence of ongoing repairs are misleading. The images are not from the Ikom-Boki-Obudu road project.
Instead, the photos are reportedly from the ongoing Boki East-West Road project, a separate infrastructure initiative facilitated by the Boki Local Government Council.
The false reports have generated confusion among residents who have long awaited intervention on the strategic road linking parts of Cross River State. The Ikom-Boki-Obudu route remains a major economic corridor used by farmers, traders, transport operators, and travelers moving between central and northern Cross River communities.
Many residents say they are hopeful that the approved emergency repairs will eventually commence, given the deteriorating condition of the road and its impact on local commerce and mobility.
Until construction equipment arrives and physical work begins, however, claims suggesting that repairs are already underway remain inaccurate.
