Squirrels are Angus's frenemies. I think he just wants to play chase and does not understand their reluctance. Also, Angus, despite his thick fur, does not have the summertime blues, or any other kind of blues.
Welcome to summer, friends! — at least here in Texas, where the heat delayed its arrival beyond the usual time but has now announced its presence quite forcefully. Oh well. The milder-than-usual weather was good while it lasted.
Just a few announcements and comments.
1) The people overseeing the production of my Sayers biography sent me an email recently that lays out the production schedule, and it named a pub date in September. September! That does not seem possible, but I shall seek to have faith. It would be great to have it out in time for Christmas shopping, and that, at least, seems like a real possibility now.
2) I'm settling into a rhythm at Cosmos Malick (where I have a long post on Knight of Cups up just today) — and indeed in my bloggy work more generally. Basically: I am continuing to post links, images, and short comments on my micro.blog page, while at Cosmos Malick and The Homebound Symphony writing fewer but longer posts — essentially complete essays. That requires more discipline and structural reflection from me, but those are good things.
3) In the not-too-distant future I'll have a series of posts up at The Dispatch on ... well, you'll see. Let's just say that they consider a historical event of lasting relevance and concern. Stay tuned. I will of course announce them as they appear.
4) Another thing I'm thinking about: some years ago I experimented with writing capsule reviews of books, movies, videogames, etc. on index cards: I tagged them indices. I don't think I'll be doing precisely that again, because I think people benefit from links to the things reviewed; but because I am spending less and less time online, I've been mulling over ways to bring all that into my web presence. I still take a great many notes on index cards, and might post the occasional one; or maybe take photos of books I am annotating, as I did here; or, when I print out an essay or article and annotate it by hand, I could scan it and post it. See for instance my heavily annotated version of this terrific 2014 essay by Yuval Levin. I'd need to make such things searchable, at least to some degree ... I dunno. I need to think about it more. But I wonder if you, my faithful readers and supporters, would find that kind of thing interesting or annoying. Please do reply if you have a strong opinion.
