Chapter One: The Frost Where Love Remembered

Woven Through Time. I will find you again…

(Reincarnation of Kenta & Sakura)

Dear Readers,

Svalbard. A land where the wind forgets its own name and the stars burn cold, eternal witnesses to a world draped in polar twilight. In this northernmost outpost, where months blur into shadow and the sun surrenders to winter’s grip, Jacob awoke in the suffocating dark, breath ragged, skin slick with sweat, chasing the fragments of a dream that melted like snow in his hands.

It was her again.

Always her. A woman with eyes like softened sorrow, gazing at him through a veil of falling cherry blossoms. Her name pulsed in his skull, a sacred chant: Sakura. Each night, the dreams grew sharper, more insistent, carving themselves into his bones. She stood beneath a tree, petals drifting like whispered secrets, calling him not Jacob, but Kenta. Her lips moved in slow, deliberate arcs, and the weight of her voice stirred something ancient within him, a memory too vivid to be mere imagination.

But Jacob had never met her. Not in this life.

At thirty-two, Jacob was a translator and writer, a quiet soul who had drifted to Longyearbyen, Svalbard’s hushed heart, where Arctic foxes prowled empty streets and the horizon swallowed the sun for weeks. His apartment was a sanctuary of solitude, its walls lined with books and notebooks, their pages stained with ink he didn’t recall spilling. He lived in the spaces between words, translating fragments of other people’s stories while his own remained unwritten.

His coffee sat cold on the table, unnoticed. His fingers trembled as he reached for the latest notebook, its cover worn from restless hands. He opened it, and there it was, a letter, scrawled in his own handwriting, penned in the liminal haze of sleep. He had no memory of writing it, yet the words stared back, undeniably.

He began to read, his voice a fragile thread in the frostbitten air.

My Dearest Sakura,
I’m scared, my love.
There are moments when words falter, when the heart’s weight defies the page. Yet here I am, pouring my soul into ink, hoping it reaches you across whatever chasm separates us…

The words ignited an ache in his chest, vast and unplaceable, like a half-remembered lullaby from a childhood he couldn’t claim. He read on, his voice cracking against the silence of the room.

Sakura, loving you is like breathing - effortless, necessary, and eternal. It began softly, a whisper through cherry blossoms, and before I knew it, you were the rhythm of my heart. No language, no universe, could contain what I feel for you.

He stopped, throat tight. The name Sakura tasted like home, like a truth he’d forgotten. Who was she? Why did her memory cling to him like frost to glass?

Outside, the aurora borealis shimmered above the fjords, its green tendrils dancing like spirits unbound by time. Jacob stood, pacing the creaking floorboards, a pressure building behind his eyes, a migraine woven from memory. Flashes came unbidden: a katana gleaming under moonlight, a wooden shrine wreathed in incense, a blood-red moon, Sakura’s tear-streaked face whispering, “Come back to me.”

He sank to his knees, the room spinning. For a fleeting moment, it wasn’t Longyearbyen, it was Kyoto. The air was warm, heavy with the scent of cherry blossoms. He wasn’t Jacob, he was Kenta. And Sakura was there, her hand reaching for his, her eyes promising forever.

The vision shattered, leaving him gasping. He crawled back to the notebook, clutching it like a lifeline. The letter continued, each line a pulse of longing.

You are the poetry I could never write, the melody I didn’t know I could hum until you. In your presence, the world makes sense. Even silence feels warm, like a lullaby only we understand. You are grace, you are a storm, you are sunrise and starlight woven into one breathtaking existence.

The air shifted. The candle on his desk flickered, though no draft stirred the room. A faint scent unfurled, delicate, impossible. Cherry blossoms. In the heart of Svalbard’s winter, where no flowers bloomed, the fragrance was a quiet miracle.

Jacob’s heart pounded. He turned, drawn to the wooden desk by the frosted window. There, on its surface, lay a single pink petal, fragile and perfect. He approached it slowly, as if it might vanish. His fingers brushed their edge, and it was real, soft, trembling under his touch.

A whisper cut through the silence, faint as a breath: “Find me.”

He staggered back, breath steaming in the cold. Tears traced his cheeks, unbidden. He whispered her name, “Sakura,” and it wasn’t just a name, it was a vow, a homecoming, a truth that had followed him across lifetimes.

He sank into a chair, the letter still in his hands, its weight anchoring him. The final lines burned into his soul.

Every little thing you do, your laughter, your gaze, the way you say my name, carves itself into my soul. I could spend lifetimes discovering new reasons to love you and still never be done. You are my Sakura, my bloom in winter’s heart, my miracle in the ordinary, my heartbeat in this chaotic world.

If I could, I’d gather stardust from forgotten galaxies to lay at your feet. I’d learn every language to say I love you in a thousand ways. I’d rewrite time to give us more of it, because this love, ours, deserves eternity.

You’ve made my heart a home I never had before. You’ve turned loneliness into a memory and filled me with something I once feared I’d never find: belonging.

When I hold your hand, I hold the world. When I see your smile, I see everything good that still exists.

No matter where life takes us, through storms or sunshine, know this: I am yours. Entirely, endlessly, unconditionally. There will never be another for me, because loving you is not a choice, it is who I am.

Forever yours,
Love,
Kenta

He whispered to Kenta again, and the name felt like a key turning in a lock. It was his truth, buried beneath years of a life he no longer fully recognised. He had lived before. He had loved before. And that love, Sakura’s love, had defied death, distance, and time itself.

Later that night, Jacob sat beneath the northern lights, bundled in wool, the letter tucked against his chest like an ancient relic. The sky shimmered, a tapestry of silent stars and emerald waves, as if it held the answers he sought. He didn’t know how or why, but he knew she was real. Somewhere, perhaps walking the icy streets of Longyearbyen, perhaps dreaming under the same stars in a distant city, Sakura existed. And she would remember him, too.

He thought of the petal, now pressed between the pages of his notebook, a fragile bridge between worlds. The dreams, the letter, the visions were not madness. They were threads, woven across lifetimes, pulling him toward her. Fate wasn’t a straight line; it was a tapestry, intricate and eternal, and it always led him back to Sakura.

Jacob’s breath fogged in the frigid air as he made a silent vow. He would find her. He would follow the petal, the dreams, the name that burned in his heart. He would search every corner of this frozen world and beyond, because love like theirs didn’t fade; it waited.

In the stillness of Svalbard’s endless night, beneath a sky that whispered of forgotten lives, Jacob stood. His journey had begun, not with a step, but with a name. Sakura. And with it, he carried the weight of a love that refused to be forgotten.
