— Synopsis —
The royal family of Tudal is in shambles.
After the heir to the throne is involved in a controversy, the King has no other option but to remove him from the line of succession. Now, Richard is the next one in line, which doesn't please him. To make matters worse, the King is going to abdicate the throne soon, which means Richard needs to learn to be a prince again. He also desperately needs to find a wife.
Miriam works as a waitress at the famous Maison du Lavien bakery, a must-stop spot in Tudal. Her job is simple, even if tiresome, but it's what she has to do to support herself and her siblings in the expensive and luxurious country. Miriam is not allowed to take risks, not allowed to dream. This is her life now, and she tries her best to embrace it.
When her friend convinces Miriam to join her at the palace's masquerade ball, she meets a gentleman who ticks all of her boxes, but whom she knows she will never see again.
When Miriam comes face to face with Richard, the new heir of the Tudalian throne, she is shocked that he is the man from the ball, and he is appaled by her disdain towards the royal family.
Their love story has all the ingredients to be disastrous, but their recipe has all the steps to be a success. Is it worth following it to the smallest of details or risking it big in the hopes of something else in the end?
Tari's Note: I wrote this story as my 2023 NaNoWriMo Project. Note that this is the first book in what I suppose will be a duology. The ending of this first book is not entirely happy, so be prepared for that if you choose to continue reading it. I have yet to work on the second book, but know that it's coming sometime in 2025.
