Why to Buy Us a Coffee?

Nov 28, 2020

Our purpose is to deal with all aspects of Asian cinema, from its lowest depths (student, amateur films) to its highest peaks (where Parasite is now). At the same time, we aim to promote the work of the entire continent through an approach, though, that is characterized by objectivity, but also by a deep love for cinema and the realization of how difficult it is to fund, shoot, and produce a motion picture. Towards this direction, we also try to interview as many filmmakers as possible, in an effort to show their thoughts and purpose regarding their work, while we frequently deal with actors, producers, crew members, and people who work in the wider industry, in order to better understand the whole bulk of this business we call show. In that regard, recently we have also started dealing with animeTV dramasbooksmanga and music.

Deep down, however, most of us are obsessive film buffs, and in order to indulge that trait, we have also included another section in AMP, named Projects, where we try to deal with every work some of the most prolific Asian filmmakers have presented.

Our recently instituted Submit Your Film Initiative, where we review all films that are submitted to us, is a distinct sample of our purpose in AMP, which has been met with impressive success, since we have received more than 200 applications since its beginning (April 2019). The same applies to AMP Cinema for Free, a section we created during the quarantine in order to allow our readers to enjoy a number of interesting Asian films for free, through streaming links.

Furthermore, our coverage of tens of festivals, a number of which are our media partners, both focused on Asian cinema and international ones, highlights our work in the promoting department even more, as much as the level of penetration we have achieved in the industry. Our collaboration with a number of companies that deal with Asian cinema through home media also moves towards the same direction.

All of the above are achieved through the effort of a great group of 30+ writers from three continents, a number of which can be easily named as experts of Asian cinema, who give their all to achieve our general goals, and ensure a diversity of opinions and perspectives.

However, despite the level of our effort, Asian Movie Pulse remains a mostly amateur site in financial terms, since our minuscule revenue derives from Adsense, a few sponsors and some ads here and there, an amount that barely covers expenses (server, festival accreditation, a bit of promotion in social media, etc. It is in that regard, and in an effort to become more professional, particularly in order to be able to pay all the admins and contributors what they deserve, we have kickstarted this Buy Me a Coffee campaign, hoping for some support from you in our effort to analyze and promote Asian cinema in the best way possible.
