With the upcoming release this winter of the official VR game Attack on Titan Unbreakable, Kodansha (the company that owns the AoT copyright) has been in contact. Kodansha was concerned that Attack on Quest had over 1 million downloads and amassed such a large player base that it could negatively impact the release of the official game being developed by UNIVRS. Attack on Quest will remain on SideQuest, however, to ensure the public version of AoQ does not get removed, we have to respect Kodansha's position and pause AoQ development (no more public releases or promotions), until further notice from Kodansha.
This AoQ community has been growing for over 3 and a half years. I've met people through Discord from all walks of life and built some amazing relationships. In our community, we have some very talented people, with the kinds of skills required to make our very own game studio...
Members of this Discord typically have 2 things in common. They liked VR at some point, and they like anime. With that, I have decided to create an indie game studio to build the VR game that this community wants. The game will be an original IP, releasing on AppLab then pushed direct to a contact we have at Meta. My business partner loves VR and anime so much that this new game studio will be funded by him.
The development of our studio's first VR game will be much more rapid than what you've come to expect with AoQ. Allowing myself more time on the project and enlisting help from the community, you can expect weekly updates. Server polls will be conducted on a range of things such as world settings, weapons, monsters, bosses, levels, mechanics, etc. Think along the lines of if you could snap your fingers and play your ultimate Anime inspired VR game, what would that look like?
VIP funds will continue to go towards AoQ server costs, with any excess towards this new project. I'm very grateful for everyone's support and very proud of AoQ and its community and look forward to this exciting new chapter.
