I picked up the bullwhip very late in life. Only about 10 years ago. It was a time in my life that was very challenging, I became a widower at the age of 47. Life didn't hold much meaning or interest for me after that. I decided to teach myself the bullwhip as a distraction from grief. Unknown to me at that time was the path that it would put me on. Instruction videos from Alex Green and Mark Allen got me started. But it was Mr. De Longis DVD's and other videos I could find, are what truly put me in touch with the whip as more than just a weapon. From there I learned enough to present a show at a local cowboy faire/Ren Faire/Pirate faire. I ended up as a cast member for those events. I discovered an entire new group of friends and activities to take part in. I never did any kind of performing in my past. Any yet here I am later doing a number of things including becoming a professional Santa Claus!! All this stemmed from picking up a bullwhip one day and saying, "Maybe this will let be forget about the hard things for a little while." It did...and more so. I will forever be indebted to Mr. De Longis for putting me on that journey. Thank you!!...to you both!!
Dear Scott. Thank you so much for sharing. I’m so pleased my methods inspired you to begin your studies with the whip. I’m also self taught which is why I don’t do it like everyone else. I’d be pleased to send you some of the articles I’ve written about my 4 decade journey with refining my methods with what I consider to be a Supersonic Flexible Blade. I’ve been studying European, Filipino and Japanese bladed weapons arts for over 5 years and they have been key to reimagining a more effortless, efficient, accurate, aesthetically pleasing and safer way to create a partnership with man’s first supersonic tool. I focus on sensitivity and structure and relaxation and the whip responds in kind.I’m delighted your journey opened the door to performing and making a lot of new friends. Send me pics of your Whip Cracking Santa and assure the kids that the reindeer are always safe and love the game. My dream was to take my weapons skills onto horseback but I wasn’t able to make that dream a reality until I was 39. Some 35 years later I’d ridden horses in 11 countries on 5 continents. I always ride with a whip and it takes me about 20-30 minutes to get a horse used to the idea and win their trust. Both horse and whip is about communication with your equine or supersonic parnter. Keep in touch and join us tomorrow for out Bullwhip Tango performance session. We’re also archiving the Live Stream so they can be enjoyed at your convenience.

thank you for this wonderful instruction! I am very grateful to have met you and to be learning your rolling loop system. Someone through the tip of my whip... and now I need to massage it back into rolling shape...
