The opening chapter of A MURDER OF CROWS.

A quarter moon glowed in the southern sky with a golden red glimmer, momentarily unwilling to yield its reflection of the distant sun. The mountain dawn rose slowly, silently on wings of fresh, cool air. The rising sun cast a soft pink rhodochrosite hue over the hillside, illuminating tree limbs with muted white edges. As darkness faded into rims of light, the sky adorned itself in a pale blue robe the color of robin’s eggs. A daily ceremony of light, color, vision, movement and the grace of dancing winds began her day.

And so this mystery begins.
