The recent media circus that has surrounded the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard court case has opened up the debate about Domestic abuse to a much wider audience.
I was not on the jury.
I did not hear all of the evidence.
I don't feel that I have all the evidence to make a solid judgement.
But I can tell you one thing -
As a victim of Domestic abuse myself, I do feel that the case did open up a lot of discussion.
I do have a gut feeling about who i believe was abused - just from the body language on the brief encounters when I did catch some video footage.
Whatever your opinions on the case, who was right and who was wrong. Were they both abusers and victims - one thing is undeniable.
The cases of men coming forward to report themselves as victims of domestic abuse has risen dramatically since Johnny Depp won his case.
Domestic abuse does not rely on gender, race, background, sexual orientation, economic status, education - non of that matters. I've met victims of abuse who have been doctors, lawyers, rich, poor, trans, men, women, parents, childless, white, black, young, old - you name it.
Abuse is a problem that can easily affect all of us.
If anything, Johnny and Amber show us that there is so much work to be done to educate, highlight and help.
