The secret to living the life that’s right for you comes from finding balance.
This is one of the key tasks of life to keep working at on a daily basis, and to be humble enough to acknowledge when we fall out of balance and take steps to remedy this.
We all do it, we all have our preferred side to hang-out in, but there’s danger in that, as there lies the proverbial comfort zone where we stagnate and growth ceases. And it’s often through pushing ourselves, albeit gently and lovingly, to focus more on the opposites, especially those which are uncomfortable to us, that we come back into balance and things naturally become easier.
It’s when we go too far one way that we lose our footing and start to suffer, either in our inner world or our external life.
I think constantly seeking to maintain a balance is probably at the heart of all well-being and fulfilment.
Balancing the interplay of the opposites in all areas of life, including:-
The inner and outer life
Masculine and feminine/Yin and Yang qualities
Introversion and extroversion tendencies
Working and resting
Mind and body
Thinking and feeling
Intuition and sensation
Doing with being
Talking and silence
Essential chores and time for creativity and care of the soul
Company and solitude
Caring for others and self-care
Giving and receiving
Sleeping and waking
Being serious and having fun
Keeping your dark and light sides in equal perspective, for we are never just one and if we believe that we are then it’s time for honest self-reflection and further shadow excavation.
The mundane and the sacred.
One-sidedness is what causes suffering and disharmony. To come back in the Tao and flow of life requires finding our balance again and in rectifying what’s become solidified through habit.
Our dreams are also fabulous sources of information that can show us where we are out of balance. So pay attention to your dreams, particularly to any scenarios that are SO different to your present daily life and which call you to try something new!
*Where are the areas you tend to get stuck?
*What do you find uncomfortable embracing?
*What remains unknown to you still?
*How can you tell you’re out of balance?
I’d love to hear in the comments below.
