Here we go.
The door opens and—BAM! Everything is white. The whole world looks like someone accidentally washed it on hot and forgot the fabric softener.
I stick my nose outside. Sniff.
OUCH! The cold pokes me right in the nostrils. Seriously? Who threw this icy slap in my face without warning?
I take one step. Then another. Behind me I’m leaving footprints that look like the marks of a brave explorer conquering the North Pole. Maybe I am a polar dog. Maybe I’m a hero. Maybe my paw fur is just freezing together, who knows.
And then it hits me. THE MOUSE!
That tiny whiskered menace lives somewhere around here, and I absolutely have to check if she’s home. Last time I didn’t find her—only because my mom started yelling that I had to come inside right now because it was “too cold to roll around outdoors.” Pfft. She knows nothing about important canine missions.
But this time…
This time I will dig that mouse out. I will find her. And maybe I’ll even bark a triumphant speech at her.
Next time… next time I’ll get her.
And if not, I’m at least going to bite the stupid snowball that keeps falling from the sky onto my head.
