I am a long story!

I am a long story!

And you too!

We all have a story to tell. We didn’t get here by a mere chance of fate or, whatever it is, what we believe.

Our life is made up of stories, from our birth, to how we develop as people, how we mark someone’s life, even after we die.

Once, in one of those delightful and deep conversations about life, a good friend asked me the following question: “if you could describe your true purpose in one sentence, like your own personal mission statement, what would it be like?” Immediately, I told him: “to touch people’s hearts with my own story, with my way of being.”

Thinking that I am one long story in many, it is impossible to have just one story that represents me. There are many experiences, many perspectives, on many situations. But the sensation is that of a long, interesting and exciting journey that is life, which leads me to remember the verses of “Emoções” (Emotions), by Roberto Carlos and Erasmo Carlos, two Brazilian composers and singers:

“When I’m here I live this beautiful moment / Looking at you and feeling the same emotions / There are so many that I have already lived, they are moments that I have not forgotten / Details of a life, stories I told here / Friends I gained, I missed them, leaving / And sometimes I let you see me cry, smiling / I know everything that love is capable of giving me / I know, I’ve suffered, but I don’t stop loving / If I cried or if I smiled, the important thing is what emotions I experienced / There are so many that I have already lived, they are moments that I have not forgotten / Details of a life, stories I told here / But I’m here, living this beautiful moment / Facing you and emotions repeating themselves / At peace with life and what it brings me / In the faith that makes me too optimistic / If I cried or smiled, the important thing is what emotions I experience.”

For many, it represents a romantic song (why not?), but also the description of a walk that reflects the collection of stories throughout a life, regardless of whether they were good or not. It’s like they say “whether I cried or smiled, the important thing is what emotions I experienced”. So deep!

Lately, I’ve seen people venture out to do what they really wanted to do and spent their entire lives doing it. Open your own business after working for years as an employee; take an unforgettable trip, the trip of their dreams, after saving a lot for it; finding a great love, even after experiencing disappointments in your love life and, still, believing that it is possible to find someone who is walking in the same direction as they; having a child, adopting a child… Regardless of what the choice is, it is interesting to think that in this process we are being transformed and, in a way, leaving our legacy, by generating the minimum impact on someone with our actions, words , desires. And this is exactly what I try to live every day. If I touch someone’s heart with my own story, my attitudes, within what I believe, then I will see my true purpose being fulfilled in practice.

You have something to add to someone’s life and your story is no more or less important, just different. It’s as long as mine. And since the question I was asked is very rich, I’d like you to think: if you could describe your true purpose in one sentence, like your own personal mission statement, what would it be like? I end this first text by dedicating it to Jason Sjare (@jasonsjare), my good friend, author of this simple question!
