Writing Update #7

Jul 27, 2024

It's been a while since we've talked. A lot has happened in the 2 months since my last post.

Writing a book is time consuming. I hadn't realized how much energy it would take to be so present in my process and still have energy left for socials.

So I appreciate everyone who has stuck around while I've been a little MIA.

Draft 1 is finished! And draft 2 is in progress!

It was surreal to finish as I started my vacation in the same place Sloane goes on her vacation. A full circle moment. I stayed up a full 24 hours to get to the end -100/10 do not recommend.

The aftermath was a weird blend of giddy and numb. Vacation was amazing, but I hadn't processed the enormity of my accomplishment. It didn't set in until I was back home and had added the pages to the alpha document.

Then, the tears and the bigness of it hit me. Ménage à Claws was a challenge for myself, to see if I could finish writing a book on my determination alone.

You see, Ménage à Claws isn't the first novel I've ever written. I actually have a YA fantasy sitting in my virtual drawer from my MFA program. But I had this crippling imposter syndrome after my program ended. That I couldn't finish another piece unless I had someone else pushing me.

But I did it. I finished the book. And not just any book. A book that is more unfiltered than I've ever written. I didn't pull any punches when it came to the emotion, didn't censor the smut. I let my freak flag fly.

Finishing a book this personal felt...hella emo. But what else would we expect? Besides, writing a book is fucking hard. And it's something I think is OK if I'm emotional about.

So now that I've made massive progress made, there'll be more time to give you all content here. Especially since I don't have to keep the title a secret anymore.

It feels so amazing to use Ménage à Claws with everyone. I've waited over a year to say it publicly. And it really does feel good to have it out there.

Funny enough, the title was one of the first things I conceptualized and has stayed the same the whole time. I'd love to know what you think of the title in the comments below.

In other news, IG is the wild west right now for me. I started with a routine for content three days a week with a set process for myself to keep up, but now that bigger updates are coming out, things are a little out of whack.

Eventually, we'll get back to Meme Monday and WIP Wednesday. Especially once I start work on book 2. BCS is going to be next year's spooky fave. Patrons and regulars will be the first ones to hear more about it, so stay tuned.

For now, I'm excited to start making promo content with the title. And soon enough...the COVER!

As I get draft 2 ready for betas, I'll be sure to sneak in some sneak peeks and maybe even an exclusive scene that won't be published. 😉

Expect a lot more special content in the coming weeks.

Meet me between the moonbeams and batwing, reader.
