Well, it's been almost a month since my second deadline and I finished....5 chapters. Sigh. Sometimes pressure works in my favor, sometimes it doesn't. Arguably, this is the most difficult part of the book because it covers the MCs coming together and interacting. On top of that, there are several scenes with difficult trauma-related themes.
Therein lies my hesitation. I want to get it right the first time. I know, I know. It's a first draft. For me, if it doesn't feel write when I first conceptualize it, then it won't feel right on the page.
But, I'm still working. And I have most of the chapters 30-50% complete. So I'm just trying to finish them by this next deadline.
That's what I'll shoot for. Hopefully, it works out. But I'm not going to beat myself up if I don't reach the goal. I've still made a bunch of progress that I'm incredibly proud of.
During Janowrimo (Cozy January writing month), I wrote over 8,000 words and outlined 11 chapters. That feels significant to me. February was even better, I wrote over 9500 words. March will hopefully be best.
In other news, I've got the inspiration bug for a little side project. If you've seen my Instagram post about it, I'm working on releasing it, probably to Kindle Vella, in the next few weeks on a weekly basis.
For those who haven't seen my Instagram post, I'm working on a serial story from the Wayward Déine universe. It's a dark fantasy featuring Triton, the god of the sea and a woman who just wanted to see a merman for the first time. And boy does she get an eyeful.
Anyhoo. Patrons and Regulars, look out for a new WIP Snippet today, and a new BTS with some worldbuilding and magic terminology coming up soon!
Meet you between the moonbeams and the batwings, reader.
